Alexandra Van Tuyll was born in Utrecht in the Netherlands. Before settling in Ireland in 1977 she travelled widely acquiring qualifications in music, art and accounting. She has performed the keyboard in Canada, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Ireland.In her own words she says ‘My subject matter is nature and it’s many moods: my work is heavily influenced by classical music ("we are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams" Elgar/O'Shaughnessy) I seek out the balance or stress between the place where we physically are and that of our far-away dreams My current project is a pictorial presentation of some of the poetry of Kathleen Raine.

I have had solo shows in Ireland, the Netherlands and USA. My work is mixed media on paper and canvas’. In 1962 she received B.A. (Hon) French and Spanish Art: Special Studies of Watercolours (School of John Pellew), University of Toronto. In 1965 she was awarded the L.R.C.M. At the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. In 1972 she received a public Accountants Certificate at the University of Wisconsin.

Her work has been exhibited in many group shows in Canada and the Netherlands and she exhibits regularly in many galleries in Ireland. Alexandra has exhibited at The Western Ligh Art Gallery for 20 years.
